5 of our favorite sex scenes

The truth is that making a selection has been very difficult for us, but here are some of the intimate scenes that have inspired us the most and we explain why:

In the third episode of I May Destroy You (HBO) there is a scene in which Arabella, the protagonist played by Coel, sleeps with an Italian guy she has just met. Just before they go to bed, she warns him that she has her period, but he doesn't seem too concerned. During the sex scene, he takes out her tampon and puts it aside... at which point her attention is drawn to a bloodstain on the bedspread.

"What's that?" he asks, picking it up.

"A blood clot," she replies.

"It's so soft," he says, fascinated.

We marvel at the brilliant way in which Michaela Coel transforms in such a natural way all the stigmas that exist about sexuality in relation to menstruation. If you haven't seen this series yet, we highly recommend it.

The series was coordinated by Ita O'Brien.

Another scene that will never cease to fascinate us is the threesome in the final episode of the HBO series "Mrs Fletcher". Eve Fletcher, the protagonist, is a middle-aged divorced mother rediscovering her sexuality after mourning the fact that her son has left home to start college. The final episode of the series features a spontaneous threesome with a 19-year-old boy, her son's former partner, and a friend of Eve's, an aqua-aerobics instructor at a nursing home. This scene is a brilliant departure from any similar scene we have seen before, managing to maintain a mind-blowing erotic charge, being full of detail and never losing the narrative sense.

The series was coordinated by the I.C Alicia Rodis.

There is another scene that always comes to mind when we try to give examples that the passion of a sex scene does not have to be linked to the nudity of the performers. In the film "Desobedience" directed by Sebastian Leilo (available to rent on different platforms) there is a beautiful scene, of overwhelming eroticism, between the actresses Rachel Weisz and Rache McAdams, where both characters give free rein to the desire they feel for each other and that they had had to repress so much because they belong to an orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn. It's a scene that always leaves the hairs on the back of our necks standing on end.

Another series in which we love the way the sex scenes are filmed is "The Bisexual", created by and starring Desiree Akhavan. The series chronicles the love affairs of Leila, who after breaking up with her girlfriend of ten years, decides to explore her own bisexuality. In the second episode there is an almost five-minute bathroom sex scene starring Akhavan herself and actor John Dagleish, where the mixture of realism, awkwardness, laughter, desire, inexperience... makes for a scene that is both beautiful and hilarious at the same time.

Last but not least, we would like to highlight the intimate scenes of the British film "God's Own Country" by director Francis Lee. The film is set in rural Yorkshire and tells of the passionate relationship between a young farmer played by Josh O'Connor and a Romanian immigrant worker, Alec Secareanu, who arrives on his farm for the sheep-breeding season. We are gripped by the first intimate scene between the two, full of contradictions, repressed desire, violence and tenderness. Francis Lee shows incredible sensitivity and skill in portraying the complex intimacy between these two characters. The film is available on Filmin, don't miss it.
